New Hope West Building - Rendering by Weber Thompson

LIHI and New Hope Community Development Institute (NHCDI) are partnering to build 92 apartments in two buildings on land owned by New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. The buildings will face each other across 21st Ave in the Central Area. The studio, one, and two-bedroom apartments will serve individuals and families at and below 50-60% AMI. The project will also feature office space for NHCDI and a produce market - Clean Greens. The architect is Weber Thompson. We are planning for a June construction start with an 18 month duration.

NHCDI Vice Chair Rev. Dr. Robert L. Jeffrey, Sr. said, "We’re excited to begin the process of building low-income housing in the Central Area with the possibility of bringing back displaced families and senior citizens. This project will also serve to enhance the capacity of NHCDI."

About NHCDI:

Founded in 2019 under the vision of Rev. Dr. Robert L. Jeffrey, Sr., Pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, the mission of the New Hope Community Development Institute is to empower, enable, and support community members in their efforts to revitalize the Central District’s neighborhood and surrounding areas. NHCDI serves as a vehicle through which residents and businesses work together to solve problems as well as rebuild and sustain community.

NHCDI is a Black-led, community-centered organization that aims to strengthen the Black presence and community well-being in Seattle’s Central District and surrounding areas.

NHCDI exists to support the vibrancy of the Central District by offering three areas of engagement: 1) Affordable housing as well as resident return and retention options, including paths to home ownership; 2) Black-owned business development as well as Black wealth-building and financial sustainability paths, 3) Educational and training opportunities as well as advancing community services. We are in the business of building hope and a better future in Seattle’s Central District and beyond.
